Suzuki return to MotoGP 2015

http://www.x-spirit.co.uk

After a three-year hiatus Suzuki will return to MotoGPcompetition next season with a new team—and a 1000cc prototype. The yet-to-be named machine is in the final stages of development by Suzuki’s overhauled and now fully in-house Hamamatsu, Japan-based factory racing squad.

And this time Suzuki says it’s getting serious. Despite years of success in both Superbike and Supersport racing with its GSX-R line of sportbikes, the Japanese motorsport giant hasn’t been able to transfer that success to GP racing since the series moved from two-stroke to four-stroke equipment 12 years ago. In fact the brand has recorded just a handful of podium finishes and only one race win—in the rain at Le Mans.

MotoGP/ Day 2/ Phillip Island/ Testing

http://www.x-spirit.co.uk

In case you are wondering why this testing is taking place, its to ensure there are no tyre issues as there were in Australia last year.

Bridgestone has brought two 2013 specification rear tyres and six new experimental tyres with changes to construction, compound and shape. However not all riders are testing the same tyres on the same days.

Bridgestone explained it’s initial day two plan as follows: “Mid-length (15 lap) runs in the morning and possibly race simulations (27 lap) in the afternoon. Test tyres [rather than the 2013 event tyres] only today.”

Times as follows:

1. Jorge Lorenzo ESP Yamaha Factory Racing (YZR-M1) 1m 29.133s [42 laps / 335.4km/h top speed]
2. Dani Pedrosa ESP Repsol Honda Team (RC213V) 1m 29.381s | +0.248s [58 / 332.3]
3. Andrea Dovizioso ITA Ducati Team (Desmosedici) 1m 29.387s | +0.254s [53 / 342.9]

So the MotoGP bus moves to Aussie for some more testing, and still no Marquez. ‘F****d!’ - Valentino Rossi ‘surprised’ by tyre decision

http://www.x-spirit.co.uk

First day of testing in Sepang, Malaysia threw in some very interesting stories. Rossi had some issues with the tyre selection from Bridgestone. Both the 2013 and 2014 specification rears had been evaluated during the first Sepang test earlier this month, after which it was decided that only the 2014 tyres will be made available. “The general consensus is that our 2014 specification tyres are working well,” Bridgestone’s Shinji Aoki had commented. “However, there is still a lot of work to do to help the teams get the most out of our new generation of tyres before the season starts.”Following the opening day of this week’s return Sepang visit Rossi, Yamaha team-mate Lorenzo, and Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso were among those who spoke of a general lack of grip – especially edge grip – with the 2014 tyres, something Rossi suspects is due to a stiffer construction.
